From Little League BAseball
As childhood friends, Marco and Arturo (better known by their families as Baby and Tootie) lived just six houses apart from each other. Their friendship blossomed over a shared passion for baseball, leading them to spend countless hours playing together at each other's homes. Throughout their baseball journey, they learned valuable lessons about teamwork, perseverance, and the importance of supporting one another. Marco often missed school dances because he was busy helping his father with California cuisine catering, specifically making chorizo. However, Arturo’s enthusiasm and willingness to help allowed Marco to wrap up his duties, so they both could attend the dances, sweetly smelling like chorizo from Simply Sabor catering.
to Building a culinary dream
Fast forward to their adult lives, these friends discovered another shared passion - food. They both had a natural talent for cooking and loved experimenting with different flavors and cuisines, especially California cuisine catering. They often found themselves hosting dinner parties, where their friends and family raved about their culinary skills. One day, while reminiscing about their little league days, an idea struck them - why not combine their love for food with their entrepreneurial spirit? Marco, raised in the butcher business and Arturo with his love for food, decided to start Simply Sabor catering. They began small, catering events for friends and family, and word quickly spread about the delicious food and exceptional service provided by Simply Sabor. Their attention to detail, creativity in menu design, and ability to cater to various dietary needs set them apart from the competition. Although Arturo has now stepped away, he continues to contribute in many meaningful ways.
California Dreamin’
Marco was born in San Francisco and raised in Mountain View, CA. His story is interwoven with a family tradition that has profoundly shaped his life. Marco’s parents immigrated from Jerez, Zacatecas, Mexico, where his father was a skilled butcher who passed down invaluable expertise and knowledge to him. His mother played a crucial role as well, making carnitas, chicharrones, and even chorizo (El Jerezano), all of which were sold in their meat market. She also prepared tamales seasonally to sell. Although Marco didn't always enjoy working in the family business, he gradually absorbed every bit of knowledge, honing his skills as a butcher’s apprentice. His passion for the trade and cooking flourished as he embraced California cuisine.
California cuisine is a culinary style that emerged in the 1970s in Northern California, celebrated for its emphasis on fresh, local, and seasonal ingredients, alongside a fusion of various cultural influences. The state's diverse population has contributed to a melange of cooking styles and flavors from around the globe. Just like the talented chefs of the past and present, Simply Sabor catering thrives on incorporating Asian, Mexican, Italian, French, and Mediterranean influences into their dishes, creating unique and innovative flavor combinations. However, Marco also holds a deep affection for traditional cooking. With guidance from his parents and a kick start from Arturo, he embraced his culinary calling, transforming it into a thriving business.
